Morning all,
Recent arrivals include Orchard Orioles (yesterday, May 1) as well as today, Wood thrush (singing this morning), and this morning a flyover Red-headed Woodpecker which landed in a cherry tree along back, stayed a bit then flew off towards my neighbors woods. This is the first adult I have seen that has landed or perched in or near the yard (last year an immature was working a fence post next door), though I get them regularly flying over in migration. Always a nice treat and nice yard bird!

Also seen this morning, several Gray Catbirds, many Yellow-rumped Warblers, a Great-crested Flycatcher and E. Kingbird. Last evening, we had a small flock of Cedar Waxwings fly by twice (where've they been?), the lingering White-crowned Sparrow was feeding in the platform feeder, and our first male RT hummer came for a visit. Baltimore Oriole singing. Bluebirds carrying fecal sacs and mockers feeding young too. Goldfinch numbers are on the rise.
