During my lunchtime walk, I heard the Virginia Rail vocalize once right next to the rear observation platform at Schoolhouse Pond. This is the first time I've heard the bird at this location since I last posted about it several weeks ago, despite being back there most days. Unlike a few weeks ago when the rail vocalized virtually non-stop, this time it vocalized once (the wheezy, pig-like grunting series) and then went silent again. A singng Prothonotary Warbler has also been very vocal and visible right off the boardwalk the last few mornings (and lunchtimes), giving some spectacular views.
