WARNING: While playing basketball in the driveway, DO NOT take your eye of the ball to watch a hawk flying overhead. Observed 4 Red-tailed Hawks, 2 adult+ 2 imm., for over ½ hour, about 1100. Adults were engaged in what appeared to be courtship behavior (ie, constant vocalization, slow upward spiraling, diving and talon grabbing). After a while one imm joined them. Do RTHs court in fall or were they teaching jr how to pick up chicks? Then about 1130, a small kettle of hawks flew over- 3 Broad-winged, 2 Red- shouldered, 1 osprey, 5 small accipiters and one accipiter that flew right next to a RTH, very high up. It was the same length and almost the same wingspan. Think I can add Goshawk to my yard list? Tom Beal Glenn Dale, MD THBeal@aol.com
