BTW, we saw quite a few Common Black Heads at Indian River and were amazed by the numbers, but a friend who grew up in UK and knows them well says they are around more often than we think. The comment made was that people weren't too familiar with them and didn't know what to look for. Without that, I would have ready to call this a bonanza year for Black Heads. Yet.....I have also NOT heard of so many Iceland and Glaucous Gulls making an appearance, and this leads me to believe otherwise. We're getting better at finding them? There's more info about them readily available? Species are increasing in the East? It's a bonanza year? Any comments from those who keep track of these things?
