"Hope is the Thing with Feathers" is a really good (depressing) read on the
vanishing of the Carolina Parakeet, Ivory Billed Woodpecker, Heath Hen,
Passenger Pigeon, Labrador Duck and Great Auk. Author: Christopher
Cokinos.

A quick search on google shows that Passenger Pigeon was extinct in the wild
be 1900. Martha, the last remaining of its species died in Cincinnati in
1914.

Perhaps they meant Ivory-billed Woodpecker or Bachman's Warbler?

Nice bio on a person who made some real contributions, but didn't Passenger
Pigeon cease to exist in the wild before he was born?
