Bob,

I take great pleasure in making you a member of the Fort Belvoir CBC
Maryland team so that I may record the Eurasian Wigeon on our count today,
Sunday Jan 4, 09. You see, the team covering Piscataway missed the bird, so
your sighting will add to the count. (please send a few notes that I can
pass onto the regional compiler, thanks) Also send your observation time
and foot miles (he-he). Rest assured that your volunteer fee was covered by
a quick pass of the hat during out tally rally.

On behalf of Carol, and everyone else on the count, thank you very much!

Kurt Gaskill, compiler and clean up technician, Ft B CBC

PS The Eurasian Wigeon puts the count tally at 118!!!!

After whiffing on the Eurasian Widgeon last week, notwithstanding two hours
of scanning the huge raft of ducks and other waterfowl, I returned today.? I
spent another hour scanning, came across a young man who had also been
scanning for some time and he opined that the bird was gone.? About twenty
minutes I was ready to leave, when I noticed a duck with a cream stripe on
the top of its head.? The duck was sleeping with bill under wing, but it
soon turned and I was able to see the rusty face and confirmed that in fact
it was the widgeon.

The bird was to the left as one scans from the boardwalk, but not as far
left as the "old refrigerator."? There is a good deal of ice along the
shore.?

Sighting was at 12:45

Many other ducks including Mallard, Black, Gadwall, Scaup (sp), Ring-necked,
Bufflehead, Ruddy, American Merganser, American Widgeon, Redhead.
