My apologies for the late report - but my computer has been down for a week-
unfortunately going down on the very day of this sighting.

Jan Reese, during his periodic surveys of birds of Poplar Island, reported
presence of a young male King Eider near one side of the rocky shore. The
seemed fairly tame, and was close enough to the shore and cooperative enough
to stay around until Jan could alert a few of the Poplar Island workers, one
of whom was carrying a camera. Photos were obtained, and if someone wants
to view the one that Jan sent to me, please just send me your request.

The bird was alone, but somewhat loosely associated with the company of ten
Surf Scoters.
The full report from the July 6 Poplar Island visit should be available
later today.
