Jane and I have a metric gauge that I perloined from work. It has an inner sleeve with a notch that maxes out at 25 mm. The outer sleeve is about as big around as an oatmeal container and will go up considerably higher. We emptied the gauge periodically when it went over 25 mm plus a bit more as that's an inch. Our rain at some point between 6pm and 9pm was falling at an inch to two inches per hour but after we dumped it at 4:30 am (not much sleep going on!), we only got another 1/4 inch. We topped off at 10.31 inches.

The digital rain gauge we have on the meteorological tower here at SERC in Edgewater only breaks down by day but Saturday logged in 5.09 and Sunday 1.38 inches for a storm total of 6.47 inches. My rain collector was damaged. There's a funnel connected to a long glass tube that sits in the mouth of my collection bottle. The tube was snapped off at the joint and the funnel was gone, presumably sucked out of the hole by the wind. Crazy.

Not sure what others had in the area but somewhere down around the Great Dismal Swamp they recorded 14+. Hope it puts out the fire!

Our hummingbirds were puzzled by the changed landscape in our yard. The one usually perches in a specific spot about 15 feet from the feeder but because there were trees fallen right next to the feeder, it perched there instead. A couple of hummers battling at the feeder but not the usual number of birds that we have in late August.

My rain gauge topped out at 5.5 inches, as I didn't empty it mid-storm.  If anyone else has rainfall amounts, especially from Anne Arundel County, I'd be very interested to know what you recorded.

Thanks!

I hadn't thought about that - the same thing happened to our Bradford pear.  Last year the birds were feeding on its fruit through almost the whole winter, although the year before the fruit all seemed to go in one early winter feeding frenzy.
