While biking the C&O Canal today from Great Falls to Violette's Lock, we had
some good birds but the best was a Common Merganser family - Momma and
babies at Violette's.  We got some fairly good photos.  Here is a link:

Otherwise we had several singing Louisiana Waterthrush, several Blue-gray
Gnatcatchers, 9 Bufflehead, 5 other female Common Mergansers,  3 Blue-winged
Teal in the pond near Pennyfield, an immature Bald Eagle, two adult
Red-tailed Hawks and the usual residents.
